What's Up in May... Vote for Albee Layer's Epic Innersection // Jamie Moran on New Jersey Barrel Dodgers // And More
Vote for Albee Layer's Innersection!
Voting for Innersection's 2011 Winter Round is now underway - and call us biased, but Albee Layer's section is all time.
Featuring massive Jaws paddle-ins, hefty barrels, and a huge variety of Radical Aerial Maneuvers, Albee's section showcases just how versatile this Maui boy is.
You can watch and vote for Albee on the Innersection site here. Voting is free and easy and takes only a moment, leaving plenty of time to surf - which you're definitely going to want to go do after seeing Albee's section.
With 4 rounds of Innersection voting, the 5 highest-rated sections from each season's round will make the Innersection DVD. Among those top 20 qualifiers, voters will then decide who takes home a $100,000 grand prize.
Featured Rider Jamie Moran
Stoked to have New Jersey's Jamie Moran as our May Featured Rider.
And speaking of featured, Jamie was recently Surfline's Sequence of the Week, shot by brother Trevor. Watch more of Jamie here, and read on for a little bit more on this Jersey boy.

Advantages of Growing up in New Jersey? Not too many. Empty lineups and a greater appreciation when you travel to other places. It's good to have friends and family nearby too.
Why Are Guys from Jersey Such Bad Barrel Dodgers? All the world ever gets to see is NJ guys getting drained. Well, in the winter you have 2 options: Straighten out and get flushed by 30 degree water, OR pull in, get barreled, and be so stoked you forget about the cold. Our sandbars offer up some good barrels in the winter, and I guess people enjoy seeing that. New Jerse surfers' turns arnd airs are certainly understimated though.
What Surfers Inspire You? Those that truly enjoy surfing every time they paddle out and don't lose focus on why they do it and how lucky they are to do it. Also, people who push the limits of what's possible.
Which Cast Member of Jersey Shore Inspires You Most? I LOATHE Jersey Shore. Bunch of donuts.
If You Were Born and Raised in Kansas, What Would You Be Doing Right Now? Plotting my escape.
If You Could Change 1 Thing In The World, What Would It Be? People's intolerance for others.
When It's All Said and Done: Friends, family, the ocean, and good food.
Parting Words: Live everyday as though it's your last, but educate yourself as though you'll live forever.
Bits n' Pieces
It began with one used (and urine-free) Drylock on eBay and ended with over $15,000 raised for the Red Cross' relief efforts in Japan. All we can say is that's one massive f*cking raffle. Cheers to intrepid raffle organizer Dan, lucky raffle winner Russ, and to everyone who bought raffle tickets. More soon...
May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and Xcel continues our commitment to preventing skin cancer through sun protection. Stay tuned for more on our efforts this month and through the summer...
Apparently team rider Jen Lee paddles with tiger blood - though we're not surprised after she completed the 40 mile Catalina Island to Dana Point crossing. Twice...
